CAT 2006 results to be declared on Tuesday
BLOG
India's next batch of aspiring managers are gearing up for the first step towards achieving their goals as the CAT (Common Admission Test) 2006 results are all set to be declared on Tuesday. Of the 180,000-plus students who sat for the exams this year, only some 1,500 will finally make it to the much-coveted six IIMs. But this apart, many others will be winging their way to some 80 other institutes which take the CAT results into account, including leading names like MDI, MICA and S.P. Jain Institute of Management & Research.

"Though the results will be uploaded on IIM websites on Tuesday, the shortlists of the respective IIMs will only be made by January 3-4," said Prof Ashish K Bhattacharyya, spokesperson, CAT group and chairperson (admissions), IIM, Calcutta. Call letters would be sent out to shortlisted students by the latter half of January, while the interviews/group discussions would be slated in late February-March, he said.

According to Prof Bhattacharyya, in IIM(C), some 1,000-1,200 students were likely to get calls, who would be whittled down to a final 300 after the entire selection process. Prof Bhattacharyya refused to divulge the likely cut-offs for each section as well as the required overall score, saying it was yet to be decided. However, he said the CAT group had resolved the matter of the three incorrect questions --- two in the mathematics and one in the verbal ability section--- in the CAT 2006 paper. "We have left out these three questions and taken the rest of the paper as a full 100 percent," he said.

Incidentally, CAT 2006 broke the usual pattern this year by being of two-and-a-half hours duration instead of the regulation two. What's more, there were only 75 questions as compared to 90 last year, with the total marks, at four per question, amounting to 300.
