Eamcet pass mark is 40

The government will lower the bar for the engineering stream of Eamcet-2005, making 20,000 students available for nearlyempty private colleges.

The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education has recommended that the State reduce the qualifying mark from 48 out of 160 (30 per cent) to 40 (25 per cent). The government will release orders in line with the recommendation, sources said.

The measure comes despite the number of students, about 86,000, exceeding the number of seats, about 82,000, with the bar at 48 marks. Government and private colleges don't want to take chances as thousands of students may prefer other courses to studying in low-rated colleges and want to widen the net. "We have to reduce marks to cater to private engineering colleges.
Unlike in the past, the government will reduce the qualifying mark before the start of counselling for admissions to avoid repeating the exercise," a senior official told this correspondent.
